Church kneelers at
St Mary the Virgin
Dennington, Suffolk
Church kneelers show church symbols. The three fish representing the Trinity are unusually shown against a fishing net. The Ichthus – IHS – is shown supported by haloed angels. A Pelican in her Piety is shown feeding her fledglings with her own blood.
A double-headed eagle shares the pews with a mermaid and Suffolk’s only Sciapod – a figure reclining in the shade of his single enormous foot.
