Church kneelers at

St Swithin

Quenington, Gloucestershire

Church kneelers were designed by Edith Money – who can be seen working in her garden on the St Silvanus kneeler – and Dawn Macleod Wilson.

Among the stitchers was Olga Steiner, daughter of the Professor of Arts at St Petersburg.  As a young teenager, she embroidered a 5 yard long carpet for the Orthodox Cathedral at Astrakhan where her grandfather was buried.  The priest – very impressed – asked if she could make it 10 yards longer: with the help of her sisters, she obliged.  While a medical student, she fled to Finland in 1918, later moving to Berlin and, finally, to Quenington.
