Church kneelers at

St Cynog

Boughrood, Powys

Church kneelers represent most of the verses of the Benedicite – the song of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the burning fiery furnace.  The  planned removal of some pews meant that the series is incomplete.

The kneeler referring to the Powers of the Lord represent creation in the complexity of the border pattern.  The crosses edging the central plaque represent redemption and the candles represent the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  As with much folk art, mistakes creep in.  One of the corner candlesticks has three not five candles.

The kneeler urging the Mountains and Hills to praise the Lord shew the neighbouring Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains.

The kneeler for Dews and Frosts show skaters on the nearby Brechfa Pond with a portrait of the designer in the bottom right corner.
